New Conservative Party of Georgia (NCP)
We would like to bring to your knowledge that on 1 October 2005 in five electoral districts of Georgia (Isani district of Tbilisi, Batumi, Kobuleti, Tkibuli and Shuakhevi) there were held so-called majoritarian elections to fill the vacant seats of those MPs who due to certain circumstances are no longer members of the parliament. A few days before the scheduled elections, four principal opposition parties – the New Conservative Party of Georgia (NCP), the Labor Party, the Conservators of Georgia and the Tavisupleba (Freedom) Party – agreed to present a ‘common opposition candidate’. In order to reveal the common candidate, the parties agreed to hold ‘primaries’ |

The Right (New Conservative) Opposition Group appeals to you with regard to the crisis surrounding the Tbilisi University Medical College. It has been several weeks since the college students have been protesting in various forms against the government’s decision to put them through the united national exams, which they are not obliged to do, based on their contract with the authorities. What is even more alarming is that it has been the sixth day since a group of the protesting students have been on a hunger strike. Through all this time, they have been in vain trying to get some attention from the government. His Holiness and Beatitude the Catholicos Patriarch of All Georgia, Ilia II, in his address to the parliament, called on the MPs to deliberate on the problem and make an appropriate decision in order to avoid any further aggravation of the situation. |

New Conservatives Condemn Health Minister’s Stance vis-ŕ-vis Students
|
The New Conservatives condemn the stance of the Health and Social Welfare Minister Lado Chipashvili regarding the ongoing hunger strike by the medical college students. David Gamkrelidze stated that instead of inquiring into their health condition and letting the public know how they are after being on hunger strike for so many days, the minister talks to the students in terms of ultimatums. Gamkrelidze said his behaviour was barbaric and alarming. A minister who came to office thanks to populistic hunger strikes himself has no moral right whatsoever to blame the protesting students and even make aggrassive statements against them.
