The Special Representative of the European Council in the South Caucasus Peter Semneby met on 21 March with the representatives of the Georgian NGOs and opposition parties. The chairman of the New Conservative Party David Gamkrelidze was also attendant at the meeting. David Saganelidze to leave for Romania to attend the Black Sea Economic Assembly committee sitting

From 22-25 March a Black See Economic Assembly committee sitting will be held in Romania. David Saganelidze has been picked to represent Georgia at the meeting. He will leave for Romania on 22 March. Mr. Saganelidze is Deputy Chairman of the Economic, Trade, Ecology and Transport Commission of the Assembly. Two months ago, he was elected chairman of the Auditory Commission. |

George Mosidze to leave for Ukraine to take part in monitoring of 26 March local and general elections
|
Ukraine will hold local and general elections on 26 March. The elections are regarded key by the international community. The vote will be closely monitored by a 70-strong delegation of the Council of Europe. The chairman of the New Rights faction of the Tbilisi City Council, Giorge Mosidze, will be among the European monitors. Mr. Mosidze will take part in the monitoring of elections in Odessa and the Odessa Precinct.

“People suspected of organizing murders covering up murderers should not be in the government,” the chairman of the New Conservative Party George Mosidze stated. Other opposition leaders also joined in. Giorgi Gvichiani who is suspected of murder was nominated to the position of the Tbilgazi General Director by the Tbilisi mayor, Gigi Ugulava. ‘Ugulava should apologize publicly for nominating such a cadre and resign afterwards,’ such is the demand of the opposition.

The Right Opposition views decision of the Industrialists to secede as “betrayal”

The Industrialists, who were part of the parliamentary Right Opposition faction, have decided to secede and form a new faction. The Industrialists say that their decision aimed at “strengthening the opposition in the parliament”. That said, word had long gone out that the members of the ruling National Movement party, Davit Kirkitadze, Mikheil Machavariani and Giorgi Arveladze were pushing the Industrialist to secede from the Right Opposition and form a new faction. It is worth noting that the people poised to join the Industrialists had never voiced any oppositional statements during their work in the parliament. |

Reformist militaries join the New Conservative Party

In 1998, several reform-minded military officers in the Georgian Armed Forces formed a group to carry out drastic reforms in the army. Their Western education enabled them to assess thoroughly the situation that the Georgian army and think about its reform. They worked out main principles and values which the Georgian army of the 21 century had to be based on. Some of these principles were carried out by them in the area of logistics, land forces, and the National Defense Academy. |
