On July 3, 2006 the leader of the New Rights (Conservative) Party David Gamkrelidze expressed his utter protest at the decision of the court, which forbids him to attend the legal proceedings related to the Girgvliani murder case.
"I will attend the process despite everything. The court had no right to do this. It has exceeded its authority and has written itself in the list of Akhalaia, Donadze, Sanodze and their "friends", Gamkrelidze said. He also accused Tako Merabishvili, the wife of the Interior Minister Vano Merabishvili, of ordering a punishment for Sandro Girgvliani and his friends.
Gamkrelidze made these statements at a specially held briefing. "I am responsible for this statement, let anyone wishing sue me in the court", Gamkrelidze said.
He said that Data Akhalaia had assigned Oleg Melnikov to carry out the order of Tako Merabishvili and Melnikov was personally heading the accomplishment of this operation - Alania and those others who are today behind bars.
"I doubt that the court will punish the real culprits," Gamkrelidze pointed out. |
