Statement of the New Rights Party regarding the Prime-minister´s order of January 3, 2007
The order of Georgian government issued on January 3, 2007 about "actions for ensuring stable supply of Georgian energy system and population with the natural gas" made it obvious that the New Rights Party´s suspect about government not intending to subsidize the expenses caused by raised prices of the natural gas was not unfounded. From the date of spreading the information about possible boost of the gas prices from Russian side the Georgian government clearly avoided to openly answer the opposition on the question - how the extra expenses would be compensated. They only promised that this fact would not affect the population´s financial conditions. By the first order of this year the government made it obvious that the gas prices will be surely increased and naturally neither the government nor the private companies are going to subsidize these expenses. It is also clear that the increased gas prices will result in further inflation. The New Rights Party considers government´s such irresponsible action another attempt of PR action and misleading the population by creating in the country an illusion about prosperity.

Mamuka Katsitadze MP gave a press conference regarding yesterday's statement of the President of Georgia
Today, on January 10 Mamuka Katsitadze MP of Right Opposition Group gave a press conference in regard to the briefing, given by the President of Georgia yesterday. The Right Opposition Group is not accepting the President´s proposal on inviting the opposition to the Meeting of Security Council. "This format is one-sidedly executive authorities´ prerogative". - Stated Mamuka Katsitadze. In general, the Right Opposition Group agrees to the political dialogue with the authorities: "We are ready for partnership not just for partnership, but for reaching concrete results." Mr. Katsitadze declared that the Constitution of Georgia requires fundamental reform and expressed readiness for the dialogue with the authorities on this issue. According to the statement of the Right Opposition Group, the President of Georgia misleads the society by declaring that the Venice Commission´s report on the Constitutional amendments was positive. "The fact that the Constitutional amendments were made on the bases of political consensus is not true either." If the authorities regard this proposal as a test for opposition, then the opposition has the test for the authorities too, this is decreasing the election threshold from 7 to 5 percent - noted Mamuka Katsitadze and called upon the authorities to take up a position on this issue. Last year 83 MPs, representatives of the majority among them, assumed a position on the issue of decreasing the threshold to 5 percent and even certified it with the signatures. |
