Statement of the New Rights Party about Human Rights Watch Country Summary for Georgia 2006
|
The country summary report of very competent international organization Human Rights Watch clearly certifies that not only the opposition and Georgian society are worried about lawlessness in the field of Democracy and Human Rights developed in Georgia. Although the report does not describe all facts of Human Rights´ violation and breaking principles of Democracy (e.g. disregard of the right of property, total control of the judiciary branch, undemocratic Constitutional amendments, etc.), but for the international community the document creates quite a good picture of the political situation established in Georgia. We have called upon Georgian government many a time to create independent investigation commission on the prison events of March 27; to stop political persecution of the judges and total control of the judiciary; not to support high officials culpable in Sandro Girgvliani´s and Amiran Robakidze´s affairs; to truly support freedom of speech and not to create in the country political prisoners and prisoners of conscience. Unfortunately, Georgian authorities instead of irrevocability of democratic processes chose authoritarian style of governing. We keep hoping that at least this message of international society will become a restraining force for unlawful actions of the Government.
