On January 20th the New Rights leader David Gamkrelidze held a press conference on behalf of the "New Rights-Republicans Political Alliance" to protest against agreement signed on December 28, 2008 in secret circumstances, according which Enguri Power Plant, the largest hydro power plant in the region, will be jointly managed with Russian state controlled electricity trader, Inter RAO.

1995 – awarded a title of a Corresponding Member of the Ecological Sciences

1999 – elected as Member of Parliament of Georgia

1999-2001 – first deputy of the Environmental and Natural Resources Committee of the Parliament of Georgia, he gave up this position on his own discretion just as he left the Citizens’ Union of Georgia (CUG)

2000 – became a founder of the social union “New Movement”

2001 – became a founder of the political union New Rightist Opposition Party of Georgia and was elected as General Secretary of the party at the founding assembly

On 28 Martch, 2004 - elected as Member of Parliament of Georgia, Majority MP representing Oni regioin, Parliamentary opposition faction “the New Rrightists/Industrials”, deputy chairman of the Healthcare and Social Security Committee of the Parliament
